Since the release of the VP9, there has been an overwhelming demand for both a 40 S&W and 45 ACP variant of the striker fired platform. There is little doubt that the VP9’s popularity is anything other than its ability to hit the mark exactly in terms of quality, HK design, and price. The release of 40 S&W and 45 ACP would surely have that same expectation.
Today I had a chance to hold and go over the HK’s newest addition to their fleet, the VP40. It is exactly what was preferred, and expected, a 40 S&W version of the VP9, nothing more. Knowing the quality and overall superiority that the VP9 brought to the 9x19mm Luger (Parabellum) arena, this was something I immediately looked at, held and wanted to get eyes/hands on. Everything remains the same with the VP9; however the slide is slightly wider along the top, giving it an even more block like appearance looking down the sights. Magazines are again universal, using the P30 40&W magazines as a repeated positive decision by HK.
From what I was told, these hit the HK website tomorrow (June 12th) officially and that some FFLs are getting them, however they were not supposed to be displayed until June 12th. I correctly influenced a friend to strongly consider the VP9 and P30 was impressed enough to purchase the VP40 on the spot. I’m looking to put some rounds down range in the coming weeks and run it side by side with the VP9 to do a solid comparison.
For those interested, these should be already populated in your local FFLs who carry HK (probably only Authorized Dealers to start). If you want a little more than the VP9 offers, and can't wait for the VP45...this may be your calling.
